Animal Sketches

Old Sea Dog

These are designs I did a while back. He might still get used for something. I have been trying to get myself to do more drawn animation now that I have sold my soul and gone all computer-y so I might use him for that. He looks like he would be fun to animate.

Various Sketches

Here's a few that were just lying around.

A few of the character designs are from a project I was contributing to that may or may not still see the light of day so no stealing please.

This guy was fun. There's a lot more of him but I cant seem to find them at the moment.

The Portrait Gallery in London is pretty good for drawing. This one is from a bust of some squire or other.

I cant remember what this guy was for but I still like him.
These are a really early design of a kind of hover-bike. I have never really tried to do vehicle design before so I started really loosely blocking the shapes in marker first before going into more detail. I like the roughness of these ones though.

I'm hoping this little guy will turn into something.

This ones a marker sketch on the plane during one of my trips back to Dublin. I really don't like flying at all so I think I did this as a distraction from the gigantic flying metal coffin that was taking me on my bumpy way home.
This ones for a project that died a death unfortunately. Here's another character from the waiter thing I was toying with from a previous post. God knows if it will ever evolve into a full script but hes fun to draw. It looks really messy because I was trying out blocking the shape with marker first.

Woah... Its been a long time. Here's some naked people.

Found this one from quite a long time ago. I kinda like the way it turned out.

Stupid scanner.

This drawing has feet (they look brilliant) but the scanner cut them off...

Waiter

Heres another pen and pencil drawing I did. I coloured him up as well but I moved job since and cant find the newer one anywhere so this will have to do until I can remember where I saved it.

Sketchbook Stuff

Hers a few drawings from my sketchbooks. One is a drawing of Lee Jay Cobb I did while watching On the Waterfront. He's got a pretty amazing head on him so it was really fun to draw. The next is a character I was trying to develop for a 2d lipsynch project I wanted to start but Ive had second thoughts about it because i think he might look just a little bit too like one of the fathers in Sleeping Beauty. So that ones on hold. The final one is a fat lady. I drew her with almost no preparatory drawing at all which is not usually the way I draw. Also I drew with pens which I've started doing more and more. Its amazing how when you can't go back on what you do, how much quicker you move forward with a drawing. Its hopefully going to be part of a much bigger illustration I'm planning in the same style.

Watercolour Monkey

Ive been trying to teach myself how to paint. Im starting out with watercolour. Its pretty damn hard. Here's my first attempt at a painting. I was watching one of David Attenborough's DVD's about chimps and apes so decided id give that a go. Appologies for the crappy scan. I have the worst scanner/printer in the world. Hopefully more to come. I am posting the original thumbnail I did as kind of a before and after.

Colour: Assasination of jJesse James etc. etc.

This one is from the scene where the james gang rob the train near the begging of the film. the whole scene when they are waiting for the train to stop is amazing. this sketch im most happy with and was the most fun to do, as well as being done in the least amount of time, an hour or two.

Colour: there will be blood

this is one of a couple of images ive done for "There Will be Blood" I'll post the others as soon as they are done. with all of these the characters are drawn generically and without much attention on making them look like they do in the films, although I think the boy has a bit of similarity with the live action character but its mostly accidental.

Colour: Dont Look Now

This is one of my favorite films, ive been really enjoying doing these quick colour sketches of scenes from films that I like while waiting to start work at in the first week in august. its nice to focus on colour and composition for a while. The films use of colour, besides that of red, is really subtle.
